Summer Reading Program

   August 25-28, 2008

Parkrose United Methodist Church is one of four local churches participating in an annual summer literacy program in partnership with Sacramento Elementary School.  Teachers and parents select students who would benefit from extra reading practice during the summer to enroll in the program.  Volunteers read to and with the students, and help them with additional writing and literacy activities.

The literacy program runs Monday thru Thursday, August 25-28.  The hours are from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Volunteers are needed; to volunteer, contact PUMC at (503)253-7567 or welcome@parkroseumc.org

Worship with us!

10:00 a.m.  Blended Worship                                           PUMC Sanctuary

Pastor Bill's reflections on the basics. What does it mean to be a Christian today? An earlier vision and an emerging vision. "What in the world...?" Generation to Generation-What story do we pass on?

Powerful Music of our Faith-blending traditional and contemporary styles, relaxed and relevant

11:30 a.m.  Vine Time Fellowship                                  Miller Hall Chapel

Some reflection from Pastor Bill. Much dialogue and debate. Local manifestations of world issues. Re framing the story. Jesus says, disciples act...How will we act on what we hear?

Vine Time Fellowship is an emerging Christian community.

Engaging, supportive, active, exploring.

Music that rocks, gospel and more.

Multiple Worship Services = Busy Weekends

Did you know that FOUR different congregations actually meet at Parkrose United Methodist Church, with FIVE different worship services available?

On Sunday mornings, the United Methodist congregation holds a blended worship service (a combination of traditional and contemporary elements, including organ music, choir, and praise band) in the main sanctuary at 10:00 a.m.  At 11:30, the Vine Time Fellowship (part of the United Methodist congregation) holds a different kind of service in Miller Hall, with a contemporary band, an interactive message, and coffee and snacks at your table during worship.  Both services include a children's program.

On Sunday afternoons, a Hispanic congregation holds a service in Spanish at 3:00 p.m. in Miller Hall.  This is a very upbeat service with great music.

On Saturday mornings in Miller Hall an Ethiopian Seventh Day Adventist congregation meets from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., a Ukrainian Fellowship meets on Saturday afternoon in Miller Hall for worship..

PUMC is glad to have the opportunity to share its facilities with the community in this way!
